20 tips to book the cheapest possible hotel room. Want to score a deal on a great hotel? These tips and hacks will help you get the best price on your next hotel stay. First, be flexible
Go when other people aren't. The rule of opposites. Business destination? Go on the weekend. Resort like Vegas? Go during the week. Consider this even within a single city. San Diego by the beach in the summer will be expensive. Cheap in winter.

Hotels that have just opened tend to have very low occupancy rates and often offer prices well below the competition to get people acquainted.

Especially if there is only one of that specific chain at a destination
Find the local chains. In Japan: Toyoko Inn or JR Hotels. In Taiwan: K hotel

4 – Coupon codes and memberships
AAA, Senior, through your work
Find coupon codes on FF blogs and flyer talk
Use the flexible date search function to find a day with your rate

5 – Promotions
Find promotions at places like travelzoo, Groupon and hotel websites
Check out promotions like stay 3 nights and get 1 free. It may not always be cheaper

Get more points promotions

6 – Stay for a long time and book in advance

7 – Be creative with your searches
A week away? Try to search by day, weekends only, weekdays only.

8 – Check some aggregators
Kayak, Expedia, Agoda, TripAdvisor
Maybe a country specific one like Rakuten
Make sure you are logged in when you search

9 – Also look directly at the hotel's website
Make sure you are a member of their loyalty program

10 – Obtain the hotel credit card
Free perks like breakfast, late check-out, just for having the card.
And you earn more points for the booking

11 – Other credit card benefits
Amex FHR
Citi Prestige Card
Buy 3 nights and get 1 free

12 – Price match
Found a lower price elsewhere? Many hotels have a low price guarantee and will beat the low price elsewhere.

13 – Keep checking the rate
The rate may decrease as the date approaches. Rebook the lower rate

Usually 10 to 20% less
