In today's video we show you 5 great soccer drills for central defenders and central midfielders (CDMs).

Exercise #1
Start with a coordination sidestep drill and step in front of a dummy to intercept the ball. Then quickly pass the ball into a small net. Repeat the coordination drill in the opposite direction and then intercept an aerial pass. Get control of the ball and drift into space, finishing with another pass into a net. The key to this drill is to focus on awareness, especially when intercepting passes. Technically, focus on a good first touch, passing accuracy, speed of passing and drifting with the ball to break lines.

Exercise #2
Start by performing an agility move by sitting down and then quickly jumping back up. Then control an aerial pass, dribble forward and do a 360 turn with the inside or outside of your foot. Play a quick give and go and finish with a drive run down the court. Focus on getting a good first touch on the aerial ball in this drill. Keep the ball close to you as you dribble and see if you can change direction quickly as you turn.

Exercise #3
Start with an agility move by dropping onto your stomach and then quickly jumping back up. Control an aerial pass and again make a 360 degree turn with the inside or outside of your foot. Look up and play a long, driven diagonal pass in the air. Follow this up with a driving run down the court. In this drill you want to focus on a good first touch on the aerial ball, changing direction while dribbling, and correct technique and weight of the long diagonal pass.

Exercise #4
Start by performing a coordination drill and then step in front of a dummy to win an air ball. Then shuffle back and win a high ball with a long defensive header. With this drill you want to focus on technique, timing and reading the flight of the ball when heading away

Exercise #5
Start by performing an agility drill, followed by pogo jumps back. Sprint to the nearest post and head the ball away. Again, it is important to focus on reading the flight of the ball and clearing it as far as possible.
