The health sector, one of the most important sectors for societies and economies worldwide, is of particular interest for AI applications given the ongoing digitalization of health data and the promise for improved quality of health and healthcare.

Many researchers from the machine learning community are driven to apply their methodological toolkits to improve patient care, inspired by the impressive successes in the field of image analysis (e.g. in radiology, pathology and dermatology).

However, due to the complexity of AI models, it is difficult to distinguish good from bad AI-based solutions and understand their strengths and weaknesses. The ITU and the World Health Organization established the ITU/WHO Focus Group on 'AI for Health' to clarify responsibilities and build trust among AI developers, AI regulators and AI users.

What is AI for good?
The AI for Good series is the United Nations' leading action-oriented, global and inclusive platform on AI. The Summit is organized year-round, always online, in Geneva by the ITU with XPRIZE Foundation in collaboration with more than 35 sister organizations of the United Nations, Switzerland and ACM. The goal is to identify practical applications of AI and scale those solutions for global impact.
