And those of you who may have just purchased an AR for the first time and are eager to see how they are broken down. I cover the controls, some functions, disassembly and reassembly for cleaning. Note 1:
/"Ride it home/" – Slang for – sliding the bolt forward.
People new to ARs/firearms are hesitant to just let go of the charging handle. So they move the charging handle forward / "drive home /". By doing this, they take a certain amount of energy away from the bolt. The bolt needs that energy to extract an ammo from the magazine and chamber it. Moving the charging handle forward increases the chance of paper jams and/or paper jams. So just pull it back and let it go.
**Note: It is not good practice to do this with a semi-automatic firearm that does not contain a loaded magazine (to slow the action). Without a loaded magazine in the firearm, the bolt will fold (or slide in the case of a pistol) forward, potentially damaging the firearm. In that case you want to take him a bit easier ("drive home/").

Note 2:
The carrying handle came with my rifle, a Colt. However, there are no roll marks on it to indicate it was manufactured by Colt. Search the internet for AR 15 Carrying Handle. You will find them.
