Join us in conversation with Jamil Shariff this December to learn more about a career in the exciting areas of international community engagement, appropriate technologies and policy development in renewable energy/energy efficiency.

Jamil is a director at Green Evil Genius Consulting, a boutique firm focused on innovation and sustainability in remote regions. While he was busy running his own consulting firm, he stayed busy! He has worked around the world, converting his own vehicle to run on a renewable resource, writing a book of environmental projects to promote learning and innovation, co-developing appropriate technologies in remote areas of the world, and helping companies production and distribution thereof. He has held a wide variety of positions, including Senior Technical Expert at Econoler – a consulting firm headquartered in Quebec with more than 35 years of experience in energy efficiency in Canada and globally – where he worked on projects in the Balkans, the Middle East and North Africa, and Central and East Asia. He was a Senior Advisor at SNV Netherland Development Organization – the development implementation organization of the Dutch government – and worked on implementation projects for biogas, solar energy and cooking stoves in Central Africa; and an appropriate technology and business development advisor at the Aga Khan Foundation – a major global private international development organization – and their local implementing agencies, working across Central Asia and West Africa.

Jamil has nearly 20 years of experience in a wide range of roles in renewable energy and energy efficiency technology and policy development and is the author of 50 Green Projects for the Evil Genius, published by McGraw-Hill Professional in 2008. He began his career he provided technical support for environmental organizations in Washington, DC in the year 2000 before returning to Alberta to work on policy and technical projects with local non-profits. In 2007 he completed an MSc in Energy and Environment in Architecture from the University of East London, UK and in 2016 obtained a Certificate in Climate Finance from the Frankfurt School of Finance in Germany. He has worked in more than twenty countries around the world, including Afghanistan, Cameroon, Mali, Tajikistan, Kosovo, Turkey, Morocco, Benin, Sierra Leone, Iran and Pakistan.
