This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED conferences. 2,500,000,000,000,000,000 bytes of data (2.5 exabytes) per day is what we are currently generating. The mid-decade turning point we are now experiencing is an unprecedented ability to process this data and generate insights. These insights, gained from new data processing techniques, could influence the way we shop, how we find jobs, date and even how doctors diagnose diseases.

Dr. Charles W. Stryker is the founder and president of a professional consulting firm, Venture Development Center, Inc. (VDC), and he was recently recognized as Data Innovator of the Year 2013. His company has a focused practice of assisting “Big Data” companies in creating, developing and commercializing information services.

He has served on the board of directors of a number of public and private companies. His current board appointments include: Avention, Data Mentors, Datamyx, Geoscape, Innography, Jobvite, NetFactor, Netwise, RDC, The Retail Equation, Triton Technologies and V12.

Dr. Stryker holds the BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and the Ph.D. in computer science from New York University. He is an active speaker and author in the field of database product development. In addition to these academic qualifications, Dr. Stryker was a part-time faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School from 1991 to 1999, where he taught a number of courses in the Entrepreneurial Center.
