This tip is probably the main reason why I have been able to track calories for so many years.
I am the type of person who likes varied food and junk food.
So what I like to do is save as many calories as possible for these meals.
Of course, the majority of your diet should consist of whole foods, but some days when I'm really hungry, as long as I'm meeting my protein intake and my daily servings of fruits and vegetables, then I would allocate the rest of those remaining calories. to fulfill my indulgences, as long as I don't exceed my calorie limit.
And if I'm tracking macros then I would continue eating low fat meals throughout the day to allocate more fats to my snacks hehe
I know many people who can stick to their diet during the day, but end up quitting at night. With this approach, you still get what you want to eat without having to feel guilty about breaking your diet.
