Two major challenges for modern energy systems are increasing electricity generation from renewable sources and reducing, stopping and reversing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. This work shows that geothermal energy can be produced while geologically stored CO2 circulates between the subsurface and a power plant. This integrated process is called CO2-driven geothermal exploitation and can be linked to and increase the efficiency of processes that remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
