Today's robots operate autonomously in structured, isolated environments under constant human supervision. This is starting to change with the increasing adoption of collaborative robots (cobots) that are able to perform various tasks interdependently with humans as equals, in unstructured and dynamic environments, both at home and at work.

Human-robot collaboration allows robots to effectively collaborate and integrate with humans, freeing them from tasks that may be too dangerous, strenuous or tedious, while improving quality and productivity. However, many operational safety challenges need to be resolved before robots can be widely adopted.

In this webinar we explore how we move from assembly line robots to highly flexible and reliable cobots, including advanced solutions that allow robots to reduce collisions with humans, the trade-off between design and physical interaction, and how robotic collaboration systems are emerging as a powerful enabler of the handoff of skills between humans and robots.

Speakers:
Aude Billard, professor and head of the LASA laboratory at the School of Engineering, Swiss Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL)
Julie Shah, Associate Dean of Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing, MIT
Danica Kragic, Professor at the School of Computer Science and Communications, Royal Institute of Technology
Roberta Nelson Shea, Global Technical Compliance Manager, Universal Robots

Moderator:
Brian Scassellati, professor of computer science and mechanical and materials engineering, Yale University

What is AI for Good?
The AI for Good series is the United Nations' leading action-oriented, global and inclusive platform on AI. The Summit is organized year-round, always online, in Geneva by the ITU with XPRIZE Foundation in collaboration with more than 35 sister organizations of the United Nations, Switzerland and ACM. The goal is to identify practical applications of AI and scale those solutions for global impact.
