The main differences between collaborative and industrial robots are that cobots are small and friendly, while industrial robots are fast and scary (and many of them are big too).

+ Advantages of cobots:
1- Safe and less space (no need for robot cell and can share workspace with person)
2- More flexible (can be moved to another zone or made autonomous with an AMR)
3- Easy to install
4- Easy to program and integrate
5- Cost effective (fast ROI)
a- Can directly increase quality in production or perform quality control with a camera
b- Increased productivity
c- Scale company
– Disadvantages of collaborative robots:
1- Slower (speed limitations by software and inherent mechanical)
2- Low load capacity (designed for light duty)
3- Not designed for production lines (does not replace an industrial robot)
4- Safety approval (Difficult to homologate joint application)
5- Assistance/supervision may be needed (low volume means more task and program change)
6- Fencing and radar may still be needed

+ Advantages of traditional industrial robots:
1- Highly efficient and independent
2- Fully automated and risky tasks (unsafe, toxic, explosive…)
3- High cycle speed (faster robots and also more allowed weight)
4- Higher ROI
– Disadvantages of industrial robots:
1- Not suitable for low volumes
2- High cost (basic price robot is high + complete working cell with security)
3- Process line may need to be changed
4- Needs its own space (demarcated area for robot cell)
5- Additional costs for design changes
a- An expert programmer is needed
b- Design more tools
c- Changing the cell
