Communication tips: how to welcome new people

Everyday conversations can make a difference, especially for new people. Successfully networking and developing relationships means that sometimes some of the people you meet will be new – and if you are a good listener and a welcoming, open person – using proactive communication at work or at play – you can make a big difference for others .

Picture this… You're the new guy. It's your first day. Your heart skips a beat when you enter the front door, knowing that everything is new. New people. New desk. New job. Sigh. Now go ahead and switch roles. You're sitting at your desk, with your favorite mug in your hand, surrounded by the beautiful photos of your family on the wall. You immediately notice that the new man enters the meeting room for an orientation meeting. That's when you decide you're going to make that guy's day. No need to wait for an awkward moment in the elevator or a meek hello at the water cooler. You're going to do what you wish others had done for you on your first day at work.
Here's how to be a hero to the new kid on the block. Kindness wins every time.
