Custom Premises Equipment, or CPE, is any telecommunications equipment sold or leased by the carrier to the customer and installed at the customer's premises.
Some examples of customer premise equipment include telephones, modems, CSU/DSUs (Channel Service Unit/Data Service Units), Private Branch Exchanges (PBXs), and so on. In general, the telecommunications service provider is responsible for configuring and monitoring the CPE.
