In this video I attend the Denon and Marantz 2016 European Dealer Show and get a sneak peek at the two companies' upcoming home theater and hi-fi hardware.
Highlights of the show include the first HEOS multi-room AV receiver, expected in 2017, plus new home theater receivers including the AVR-X4300H and AVR-X3300W. I'm also listening to the new high-end audio system Marantz 10 Series Reference and seeing some cool new music systems…
Denon & Marantz first look 2016
Slap the Factor 50. I'm in Malta for Sea, Sun and Sound Systems at Denon and Marantz's annual trade preview…
0.22: Every year these two hi-fi giants preview their latest kit. Like this beautiful Marantz Music Link CD player. Released in September as a partner of the Music Link amplifier.
0.35: The Denon Design Series also gets a new CD player, the DCD100, to match the designer network receiver from the 100 series.
0.46: Do you want something bigger? The Marantz 8005 series will be joined this month by the cheaper 6006, consisting of an amplifier and CD player.
0.51: The big audio story at the show, however, is the Marantz Reference 10 series, a successor to the brand's legendary line. As of January 2017 it consists of a disc player, USB DAC and integrated amplifier. Brand ambassador Ken Ishiwata, also legendary, demonstrated the system with some big black and white tones, and the soundstage was huge.
01.18: Here are the hi-fi highlights at a glance…

01.27: Denon unveiled a handful of new AVRs at the D&M conference. The AVR-X2300 is a seven-channel receiver with Dolby Atmos and DTS The big news, however, is the integration of HEOS multiroom in AV receivers.
01.53: The first to offer HEOS is the nine-channel X4300H. The one to watch, however, is the X6300. It wasn't at the show, but it's an 11-channel monster with HEOS and a built-in sink.
If that's too big for you, Marantz has also taken the wraps off its latest slim model, the NR1607, which looks a lot like the NR1606.
02.17: Here's all the skinny on the new receivers.

02.24: The big surprise of the show was the first HEOS AVR, which offered a radical new take on home cinema. It is expected in early 2017. It's 5.1 and you can use both wired and wireless HEOS speakers. Please note: there is no display. Operation takes place via a simplified remote control or app.
Kazuma Okada, General Manager Product Engineering: “This machine has standard 5.1 AV receiver functionality, with network functionality and multi-room.”
Denon says HEOS is evolving from a brand name to an ingredient. Which led to some confusion. Is it a Denon or HEOS or both?
Me: “Tell me, what should we call it?”
Okada: (Pause) “Denon HEOS AVR receiver. (Laughs) HEOS AVR. But then branded by Denon.”
Me: “Not confusing at all!”
But what's in a name? There are clearly some exciting new home theater and audio kits on the way, from immersive home theater to high-resolution audio.
