Traveling can be expensive, especially if it's a long-term adventure. If you live on savings (like me) or work remotely, you want to save money as often as possible. Well, I have two quick pro tips on how to save money on your next hostel.

There are two methods, but the most effective is not to book with HostelWorld.

Protip 1: Use hostelz.com
Hostelz.com is a search engine that searches HostelWorld, Booking.com, HostelBookers and HostelClub. It's simple: just enter your destination and dates and Hostelz.com will give you availability and prices for each booking site. There can be 3 to 10 price differences.

Protip 2: Use HostelWorld to check reviews and then book directly with the hostel
This takes a little more work, but is ultimately cheaper and can give you good benefits. The “deposit” you pay when you book through HostelWorld does not go to the hostel itself. That's just you paying HostelWorld. Use the HostelWorld app or website, read reviews and choose your ideal stay, then book directly with the hostel on their website. The hostel often offers incentives to get you to book with them, such as a free breakfast.

You will save a small amount, but it will add up. And why would you throw away 8 of them when you can do it for coffee/beer/a mini statue of a highland cow?
