Former President Donald J. Trump questioned Vice President Kamala Harris' racial identity during a tense appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago. He suggested she only recently started identifying as black and called her “terrible.”

Mr Trump was immediately questioned about his rhetoric on race and complained that he was given a “very rude introduction”. Pressed about Republican descriptions of Ms. Harris as a “DEI mercenary,” Mr. Trump said, “I don't really know.”
