In this tutorial we will guide you through the process of recovering overexposed skies with DaVinci Resolve. The tools used include Color Warper, Power Grade, Qualifier and Color Compression.

Steps to fix overexposed clouds:

Import and open the clip: Import your footage into DaVinci Resolve and open it in the timeline.

Create a Power Grade: Add a new node for primary correction. Adjust the Lift, Gamma and Gain to balance the overall exposure.

To use the qualifier: Select the overexposed area using the qualifier tool. Fine-tune the selection with the Hue, Saturation, and Luminance controls, and fine-tune the mask with the Matte Finesse controls.

Color Compression: Add another node and use the Color Compression tool to reduce the intensity of the overexposed areas and bring back cloud detail.

To use the Color Warper: Add a node and adjust the grid points in the Color Warper panel to remap the colors in the overexposed areas, pulling the highlights toward the midtones.

Additional customizations: Add a final node for customizations. Use the Curves panel to adjust color channels and apply a vignette if necessary.

Final review: Play back your footage to ensure consistency and make any final adjustments.
