The National Government of India has approved the National Medical Devices Promotion Council (NMDPC) plan to facilitate the production and use of medical devices in India. This plan, which was recently approved by the Cabinet, focuses on creating an enabling environment to improve the quality of medical devices and create an ecosystem of competitiveness and innovation to increase access to life-saving medical devices in India.

The NMDPC plan aims to implement several initiatives to improve the availability of medical devices in India, such as:

• Establishing an accreditation system for assessing and certifying manufacturers and suppliers of medical devices;
• Developing a skills and training program to help healthcare workers and physicians use the devices safely and effectively;
• Establishing an industry-led self-regulation system to ensure the quality of medical devices sold in the Indian market;
• Introduction of a digital resource hub for medical device information; And
• Work with states to ensure availability of medical equipment at the district level.

This approval of the NMDPC plan will ensure that Indian citizens continue to benefit from the availability of medical devices that meet the highest quality, price and safety standards.
