What drives the cost of health care in the United States? Every year there are new and exciting innovations to treat rare diseases, but these innovations are also very expensive. Many low-tech medical devices or interventions can still be used to improve the health of the majority of the population. While many of these things are proven and readily available, many communities do not have consistent access to them. How can we intelligently allocate expenses between specialized high-tech tools and low-tech devices?
