The State Level Industrial Establishment Guideline highlights the areas to be avoided and the rules/standards or procedures to be followed to obtain permission for the establishment. Keeping this in mind, environmental guidelines or location guidelines are recommended for the establishment of industries to ensure the optimal use of natural and man-made resources in a sustainable manner with minimum depletion, degradation or destruction of the environment. These are in addition to the guidelines already covered by the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act.
Here we need to understand another term, namely Zoning Atlas, which demarcates zones and classifies the environment in the district, presents the pollution potential of locations or zones and proposes possible alternative locations for the industry through easy-to-read maps. After completion of the State Environment Atlas, guidelines for state-level industrial establishments were prepared by the respective SPCBs
The aim of the siting process is to identify an optimal location in terms of economic feasibility, environmental sustainability and social acceptability.
