Description:

Welcome to the Home Energy Audits Webinar, co-sponsored by the City of Ottawa and SMARTNet Alliance. With a federal incentive for energy-efficient home renovations and the City of Ottawa's newly proposed Better Home Loans Program, we are poised for a massive scale-up in home renovation. If you are thinking about applying to participate in one of these programs, an Energuide Home Energy Audit is your first step. The EnerGuide assessment is conducted by an energy consultant registered with Natural Resources Canada. Afterwards, the homeowner receives an EnerGuide assessment that demonstrates the energy performance of their home. It is an estimate of the net amount of energy your home uses in a year. Three expert energy advisors will be present to give a presentation about the process and what you can expect from an audit. They will detail the steps you have taken, including how to evaluate your results and what you can do next to move towards Net Zero energy consumption.

We'll hear it from the following expert speakers:

· Marcus Hinds is a certified energy consultant, who will demystify the process and share some valuable tips that can help you achieve a successful audit. He will show how to determine the most valuable retrofits and share some of the best strategies to manage your retrofit project as a whole

· Scott Meyer, energy programs manager at EnviroCentre. Scott will detail the on-site process and what to expect on the day of your evaluation. What are the best ways to prepare your home for the audit and what can you expect from the accountant? Scott will outline all of this and also discuss the blower door test and other tools used during the evaluation.

· Stephen Magneron of Homesol Building Solutions. Stephen is a registered energy consultant and long-time advocate of Net Zero living. He will outline the next steps you can take after your audit is complete. He'll go through the upgrade report, detailing what to look out for, and let you know where to go next on a practical journey to Net Zero. He will also discuss the different technologies that will be available to you and demonstrate what is possible in your home.

Following the presentations, we will hear from a representative from the City of Ottawa who will explain the upcoming proposed Better Home Loan Program. How can you tap into this fund, how much money can you get and what can you use it for? We answer these questions and learn everything about this ambitious program.

After each speaker there is time for questions and after the presentations we open things up for further discussion. Some SMARTNet Alliance members will also be on hand to talk about next steps after your audit and what services are available to you.
