https://fioney.com/honeydue-review/ Honeydue is a personal finance app designed for couples. In this video, we highlight some of the features Honeydue has to offer and how it can help you and your partner manage your money together.

Getting started with Honeydue

If you've tried other personal finance apps before, you know it takes a while to get your accounts linked and everything set up. Honeydue is no different in that regard, although in my case the process was quite painless: I was able to select my bank, enter my details, and let the app pull the correct data. As you add accounts, you can also label them as personal or joint accounts. Finally, you can choose from a number of privacy settings, allowing your partner to see everything, just the balances, or hide an account's information from them completely.

An additional step you'll want to take with Honeydue to ensure it functions properly is to add your partner to the account. You do this by entering their email address and inviting them to join you. The app recommends that you turn your profile photo into a photo of yourself before inviting your loved one, so they know it's you when they receive the email. Once you're both set up, you're ready to explore the rest of the app.

Balances

The first page you come across on Honeydue is called Balances. As the name suggests, here you can get an overview of all your different bank and credit card accounts at a glance. You also have the choice to view all your accounts, only the accounts you have marked as 'mine', or only the accounts you have marked as 'joint'. Tapping on an account also lets you browse recent transactions.

Viewing your transaction activity is actually the first place where Honeydue differentiates itself. In addition to the ability to recategorize each transaction, you can also tag them with emojis or create additional notes. Assuming you've selected the right option in your notification settings (more on that later), your partner will be notified of your notes or responses and can respond accordingly.

If you select one transaction, you will also see a few more selections. The first option is to share the cost with your partner, another feature we'll get into in a moment. Here you also have the choice to add an invoice reminder. Tapping that option will then let you choose a frequency option (monthly, weekly, one-time), who the reminder should go to, and when you want your notification to be sent.

Activity

Considering how much you can do from the Balances section, Activity may seem a bit redundant. In reality, it's really just a matter of how you want your trades to be organized. While Balance shows your spending for each account, Activity breaks it down by category. It also includes a color-coded pie chart so you can visually see which categories you're spending the most on. Otherwise, the functionality is similar to Balances: tap a category to view transactions and add comments, tap that transaction to share expenses or set a reminder.

Bills

As you set up bill reminders, they will appear in this section in both a calendar view and a list. Of course you can also add reminders from this section. Finally, from the list view you can edit upcoming reminders, mark them as paid, or choose to skip a reminder until the next due date.

Notification settings

The last section simply called 'More' actually contains a number of features. The first tab you come across in More is a list of notifications. Speaking of notifications, you can also tap the gear icon at the top right and then select Notification Settings to customize which types of transactions and updates are forwarded to your phone.

Next to the Notifications tab you will find 'Your banks', where you can see which banks you have linked to your account. By the way, this tab might come in handy as one of my accounts recently got disconnected for some reason. To fix it all I had to do was tap my details and enter them again – very simple.

Perhaps the most interesting section of More is the Split Expenses tab. Here you will see a list of transactions that you or your partner have marked as split and in which you also have the option to post more unpaid debts. This section keeps track of who owes whom and displays an overall balance. Should you choose to “settle” this balance, you can launch Venmo or PayPal to do so. Unfortunately, these options don't really integrate with Honeydue, so you're really on your own to send the money and then simply "mark as paid" when you return to the app.
