I've been racking my brain to figure out how to explain growing to new creators. Every few weeks I try a new approach in the hopes that it will help new streamers grow on Twitch in 2023. Today, inspired by Yozoro Aoi, we're trying a new approach, and that's the Ratio System.

Massive Shout out to Yozoro Aoi for inspiring this script last year:

How do you grow on Twitch?

If you want to grow your Twitch stream, it's important to be critical. Being critical is not a bad thing, people say: “Oh, don't be so critical of yourself!”.

But there are many things you can monitor and improve, such as your footage, audio, and most importantly, the content you create. Look back at your VoD and be honest with yourself, is it in order? Does your microphone sound good? Are you involved? Is it easy to watch and enjoy, or is there anything off-putting? Be honest, push yourself to grow and become a better entertainer!

Because at the end of the day, the only way you can grow your stream is by growing yourself and being critical in a positive way.

What bit rate and settings should I use for streaming?

The easiest way to understand bitrate is to call it what it really is: your upload speed to the Twitch servers.

Now you will need a higher bitrate depending on how high quality you want your stream to be. This means that 1080p 60 frames per second requires a bitrate of 6000, which is roughly equivalent to an upload speed of 6 megabits on your end that is being recorded

By lowering your resolution and framerate you can make streaming a lot easier. For example, if you set your base canvas size to 1920×1080, but change your output to 1280×720, also known as 720p, you only need a bitrate of 4500. or 4.5 megabits.

If you still want 1080, you can even drop your framerate from 60fps to 30fps and then adjust to 4500 bitrate.
