A community round is when a startup gets thousands of its customers, users, and fans to invest alongside VCs and angel investors, or in place of full-on VCs and professional investors.

Community rounds have only been around for a few years and were invented by Wefunder, the largest online fundraising portal for startups. This category of regulated crowdfunding is rapidly evolving and it is an exciting time to be an entrepreneur or investor!

Over the past few years, I've invested in a few dozen startups across multiple platforms and interviewed over 300 startup founders on Shark-Tank style Investor panels.
