A leading automotive parts manufacturer in Europe, specialized in the machining of automotive powertrain components, faced a challenge in its production process. It still relied on the tedious manual loading from the conveyor belt to the CNC machine.
The manufacturer switched to an advanced Pickit 3D solution: a 3D robot vision-controlled bin picking system. This system is specially designed for picking tulips/gay couplings for automotive drivetrains. It uses a Fanuc R-30iB Plus robot equipped with a Pickit L-SD robot-mounted system. The robot smoothly picks parts from any bin and places them on a station. This station accurately orients and places each part into a calibration jig with a SCARA robot, all in an average cycle time of 17 seconds.
The benefits of the 3D Vision Solution were immediate and impactful. The tedious manual work has been completely eliminated and production is now fully automatic 24/7. In addition, the system offered the opportunity to scale up production even further.
