Everything you need to know before mapping with a Deebot

Information you need to know before mapping on an Ecovacs Deebot vacuum cleaner

USERS: BEFORE YOU START MAPPING FOR THE FIRST TIME.
Written by James F Laurie
If you have a vacuum cleaner with navigation and you have the following settings on your vacuum cleaner, before you start mapping, make sure you select Advanced mode, Continuous cleaning. After you complete the mapping, you will want to enable multi-story mapping. (I'll describe that in more detail later)

First of all, you'll want to find a good location for your charging station or auto-empty trash can.

According to Ecovacs instructions:
Note: The distances are recommended but not always required.
“Place the loading dock on a flat floor against the wall with the base perpendicular to the ground. Keep the immediate area 1.5 m (5') in front of the charger and 0.5 m (1.6') on either side of the charger free of objects and reflective surfaces.”

If you plan on using your mop function, you definitely do NOT want the dock to be on the carpet. The vacuum cleaner, due to its design, does NOT work on carpet while mopping. The mop mode is enabled when the mop plate is installed.

It should be clear, but don't mop while mapping.

MAKE SURE THAT ALL DOORS TO THE ROOMS YOU WANT TO MAP REMAIN OPEN DURING THE ENTIRE PROCESS.

The vacuum cleaner will most likely want to avoid very dark floors or not, because of the fall sensors. (If you have no legitimate reason for your fall sensors, such as stairs, you can solve this by covering your fall sensors with heavy duty tape. (You can provide more information if necessary.)

Mirrors or reflections at floor level can also disrupt a clean map. Think about how you can try to avoid them. If possible, they can also cause problems later when vacuuming. I have a suggestion if you're interested. When mapped with a mirror it looks strange because it shows a room where there isn't one, when vacuuming this usually doesn't cause a problem because it can't go there anyway.

Charge up to 100%!
I would highly recommend mapping in QUIET mode to save your battery and for other reasons it uses much less battery, at least if you have a large house, to avoid having to charge the vacuum cleaner during the process . You'll thank me later.
On the T8 and later models, enable silent mode by going to the Cleaning preferences in the bottom left, turning off the Cleaning preferences and selecting the fan with the line through it.
On 950 and older models there should be a Quiet mode in the vacuum power settings in the menu.
Turn off Auto-Boost Suction to prevent increased suction on carpet.

Note: It is preferable, if possible, to have no interference with the vacuum during mapping, so grab or block anything or area that you think may interfere with mapping. You'll have the No-Go lines to determine where your vacuum goes once you've mapped it out. So, if possible, release the vacuum during mapping.

Please note: The map is only saved when the vacuum cleaner is automatically placed back in the charger.

Ignore any unusual paths during mapping. It may not make sense, but apparently it has a plan, just be patient and wait for it to be completely done. You don't see that strange behavior while vacuuming.

Once completed and returned to the charging station, the map must be saved.

At this point you will want to enable Multi-Floor Mapping
Multi-story maps can be accessed via an icon at the bottom left of the map page that looks like two pages and a pencil. For some reason these options are disabled by default. You'll want to wear them!
I have no idea why these are disabled by default. I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't want to wear them.
The newer T9 screens may vary and some older models may not have all of these features.

Once the mapping is complete, you can continue. Only after you have completed merging and dividing your rooms should you press the Save button in the multi-floor mapping (looks like a 3.5 floppy disk). The Save button will disappear once your map has been saved. And it will show above your card as saved

If you're done and you don't have a map on the multi-story page or in the Area section, and you don't have a save button, that means your map wasn't completed for some reason. Usually it is completed on the first run, but occasionally it may take another run. This has happened to me a few times, and the way I resolved it was to simply perform another Auto Clean.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to message me with any comments or suggestions.
