/"서울 최초 공공 로봇 시설/"… 로봇 테스트•인증 한 곳에서 가능

In other news.
The first public robot facility has opened in the capital Seoul.
Our Lee Soo-jin explains what it could mean for related research and testing.

We live in a time when people are focused on building robots that can address labor shortages across industries.
And with the opening of this new research facility in Seoul's Gangnam-gu district, research institutions and companies alike can now test and certify their robots in Seoul's first public robotics research facility.

/"It was difficult for employees of AI startups to travel all the way to Changwon or Incheon to conduct tests, but now they can do it here in Gangnam. I believe this will increase the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector as a whole./ " "

Companies that form the backbone of the manufacturing sector, such as metal and auto parts manufacturers, have lost strength due to their heavy reliance on skilled artisans, as many have retired without new workers to replace them.
To help these companies, artificial intelligence is used to train 'meister' robots to learn the skills of these artisans.
This machine, which was used by a craftsman for decades, has been transformed into a masterful robot that can do what the craftsman did all by himself based on data collected over two years.
Even though the craftsman is now retired, his knowledge of how much pressure to apply to the polished rod can still be used.

And there is also active research into /"cobots/".
Cobots increase productivity by taking on repetitive tasks such as sorting different devices into certain shapes and colors, giving people the freedom to perform more complex tasks.
But because cobots work in the same space as humans, they must have safety certifications that previously could not be obtained domestically.

/"The very first cobot certification system is now available. Previously, we had to pay a fee, which was usually quite high, to a foreign company to get certified, but now we can certify our cobots in Korea./"

The district office expects that this will further strengthen research into cobots in the country.

/"Continued support for these types of robot developments from the public sector will not only help smaller companies and the manufacturing industry as a whole, but it will also help move Seoul closer to becoming a global hub for robotics.
