The LIFX Smart Bulb connects to your network via WiFi and not via Zigbee like the Philips Hue lamps, so no hub is required. In my experience, I noticed a delay between the lamp replacement status and the status in the home assistant when power was removed/turned on via the switch. The standard service light.turn_on cannot be used with this integration, so you will have to use lifx services.
