Instagram has finally enabled RTMP live streaming, allowing us to use OBS Studio and other RTMP live streaming software to live stream to Instagram without the need for the Instagram app.

All you have to do is set up OBS Studio on your computer, log into Instagram, click create and then click Live Video. Instagram will then provide you with the RTMP URL and stream key needed for OBS Studio to livestream directly to Instagram.
