This is a series of video tutorials for my friends here in Cambodia on how to set up Locus as a great app for navigation with their motorcycle.

Contents:

Garmin devices like Montana and Oregon are great: rugged, good, touch works in the rain… but very expensive.

Locus is NOT available on iPhone. MotionX for iPhone is good, but not as good as Locus. Better buy a cheap Android than lose your iPhone in the river…

Add Google, ESRI and other online maps:
– Install app 'Locus – addon Map tweak' and run 'tweak'

Hide unnecessary online cards:
– In 'Menue (top left)/Maps/Settings/Available maps', select only those maps:
Open CycloMap
OSM Classic (city names in Khmer script)
Google Classic
Google Satellite
Google hybrid
Google Terrain, Street
Bing satellite
Bing hybrid
OSM German style (city names in Latin script)
ESRI satellite
ESRI hybrid
ESRI special navigation charts
MapBox hybrid

Add offline map:
– Get the Thailand map via 'https://www.openandromaps.org/en/downloads'
– Extract the map and place the file in this location on your phone: Locus/mapsVector (or somewhere on your SD card)
– Get the theme from 'https://www.openandromaps.org/en/legend/elevate-mountain-hike-theme'
– Download Elevate 4 for Locus from your phone's browser
– Open 'Map Themes' and select 'Elements LE'
– After selecting the theme, select all layers except 'extended road surfaces'

To add shadow on hills:
– Settings/Maps/Advanced features/Map shading:
– Enable (personal maps and LoMaps only)
– On the main screen, download the elevation data of the actual area
