We dismiss the new apps that keep popping up and claim they will change the way we live and communicate.

But if there are two that have to do with live streaming videos from your phone that quickly build a large following, I'll definitely start paying attention to them.

Meerkat, which launched a few weeks ago, and Periscope, which went public a few days ago after closed beta, let people stream videos directly from their phones and post a link to the video on Twitter.

In this video I show the two apps in their current state, how they differ, and why you might actually want to use them.
