About this video: If you want to know how to optimize your Minecraft server, this is the video for you! We'll show you how to configure your Minecraft server to be lag-free and how to optimize it for the best possible performance.

But first things first: there are two categories of servers: vanilla and modded Minecraft servers and plugin-based Minecraft servers. Plugin-based servers running the PurPur server software are the most efficient Minecraft servers available. To start, let's look at vanilla and modded Minecraft servers. These tips will also work for PurPur servers to make them even more efficient.

The biggest thing you can do for a custom Minecraft server is pre-generate your world. This will have a huge impact on RAM usage and prevent crashes. In the description above there is a link to a plugin called Chunky. This plugin generates the chunks in your world, meaning the server doesn't have to work to generate those chunks.

Next, you want to make sure your server has enough RAM and a good CPU. Otherwise, no matter how much you optimize your Minecraft server, no slowdown fix will work and you will have constant performance issues. The amount of RAM you need on a Minecraft server depends on the type of server you have, the players, and what's happening on the server.

Finally, you can optimize each Minecraft server type and improve performance by lowering the simulation distance to 4 and the rendering distance to 7 in the server.properties file. This will get to the point where your players won't be able to see as far into the game, but the performance benefits are huge on modded and standard Minecraft servers.

From here we can move on to optimizing a PurPur Minecraft server. PurPur servers are optimized using the .yml files located in the server folder. The bukkit.yml, spigot.yml, pufferfish.yml and purpur.yml are all located in the root directory of the server. Paper-world-defaults.yml is located in the "config" folder in the root folder.

We'll discuss any changes you'll want to make to each of these files to optimize your Minecraft server. However, there is a link to a text version of all these configurations in the description above. It contains more details about the changes you make, and can sometimes be easier to follow as well.

Since there are a lot of different changes in all of these configuration files, we recommend that you use that article or video to find all the different changes you need to make to get optimal performance for your Minecraft server.

That said, you now know the best Minecraft server optimizations you can do to fix the lag on your Minecraft server. If you have any questions about how best to fix Minecraft server slowdown, let us know in the comments. We will do our best to help you.

Otherwise, if we helped you learn how to reduce lag on Minecraft servers, give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. It really helps us, and it means a lot to me. Thank you very much in advance!
