Parler was taken offline early Monday morning after major tech companies, including Amazon.com Inc. and Google, had withdrawn their support for the social networking site following the violence and riots at the US Capitol last week.

Parler Chief Executive Officer John Matze said the company had sought alternatives after being notified by Amazon that it would end its cloud computing support at midnight Sunday in California. Parler has been unable to find other vendors willing to step in because of the negative publicity resulting from the violence, which was staged in part on its own platform.

“We will likely be offline longer than expected,” Matze wrote in a message on his network before Amazon restricted hosting. “This is not due to software limitations; we have our software and everyone's data ready to go. Rather, Amazon, Google, and Apple's statements to the press about cutting off our access have caused most of our other suppliers to drop their support for us as well. And most of the people with enough servers to host us have closed their doors to us. We will keep everyone and the press informed when we are back online.”

In the wake of last week's riots, Twitter Inc. and Facebook Inc. banned President Donald Trump, as well as users and groups who supported the violence. That led to a surge in downloads for the less restrictive Parler service, thanks in part to encouragement from Republican lawmakers and media figures.

But Google and Apple Inc. have banned the service from their mobile app stores, preventing Android and iPhone users from downloading it from their outlets. Matze insisted he would not give in to “politically motivated corporations and authoritarians who hate freedom of speech!”

In his last post, Matze promised that he would not move to another social media site.

“Parler is my last stand on the internet,” he wrote. “I'm not going to create an account on any social media. Parler is my home.”
