Prague (Czech: Praha /ˈpra.ɦa/) is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic, Bohemia. Located in the heart of Central Europe, in the west of the country, the city is built on the banks of the Vltava (in German: Vltava).

The old town hall was founded in 1338 as the seat of the government of the old town. The oldest part of the complex consists of the south wing, a beautiful Gothic tower with a bay window chapel and a unique astronomical clock – known as the Orloj – where the twelve apostles appear every hour between 9am and 11pm. The eastern wing of the city hall in neo-Gothic style was destroyed during the Prague Uprising on May 8, 1945 and never rebuilt.
