ArtiMinds Robotics and SHL, an expert in surface finishing applications, have found new ways to improve process quality and save time when setting up robotic sanding systems.
The task was to equip the robot with sensitivity to remove the exact amount of material to achieve consistent surface quality. In sanding processes, one of the biggest challenges is finding and maintaining the optimal contact pressure that the tool needs to apply to the workpiece. The ArtiMinds RPS software simplified the programming and realization of this application through adaptive force control.
During operation, monitoring and optimizing programs can be quite time-consuming. The iterative process of adjusting parameters in the robot program based on visual inspection, sound checking and feeling the surface is very important, but can be a lot of work and requires a lot of robot expertise.
The ArtiMinds Learning & Analytics for Robots (LAR) software automatically monitors and visualizes data from the robot system. Based on this additional, very detailed information, SHL managed to optimize the robot program much more efficiently.
