Finding and recruiting staff can be a challenge. But building a winning team is the key to success. So let's list 7 tips for recruiting great employees!

Tip #1 – You need a great culture.
If you're a new company, find a great company culture to base your own culture around. What kind of culture do you want, what does that look like, what does that feel like, what does that sound like, etc. Culture is the key to hiring. Without a great culture, the rest of these tips won't help much. To help you get started, here are some tips for building a great culture – https://youtu.be/AfrDJLkK59M

Tip #2 – Build a job application page on your website.
Make sure the page really highlights your culture, team, what life is like in your company, etc. Videos are a very powerful way to do this and a great investment! Here is Madwire's application page – https://www.madwire.com/apply/

Tip #3 – Build your social presence in your local community.
LinkedIn is a great way to reach beyond your local area and target your specific industry/talent. Share things about your culture, the things you do in the community, your mission, etc. Now if you're ready to hire for a new position, post about it with a link to your application page so they can learn more and you'll likely get some great applicants who are a great fit for your culture!

According to the Office Vibe report, more than 75% of professionals are passive candidates who are not currently looking for a job. So this strategy is great because it captures the talent that isn't looking. These are often the best employees. Job boards are the opposite, they are nothing but filled with searching candidates.

Tip #4 – Get your business listed on Glassdoor and start building your reviews and ratings.
Make sure your profile is completed completely. Think of Glassdoor as the microsite for your brand's culture. Fill it with photos, prices, videos, etc. Then ask your employees to leave reviews so it gets filled with reviews. If they haven't already left a review during annual employee reviews, politely ask them if they would like to do so. Be proactive in asking for feedback. This is another reason why culture is so important… so you get good reviews! Always respond to reviews, good or bad. The bad ones are a great way to clear up any confusion and share your side of the story.

Tip #5 – Ask your employees for referrals!
No one wants to refer someone they don't think is a good fit. So you are already ahead. Plus. People work best when they are surrounded by like-minded people. So in an ideal world you would build almost your entire business based on referrals. Your culture essentially becomes a vast network of friends and family. This really contributes to employee retention and satisfaction. Here too, culture is the key to achieving this.

Tip #6 – The Obvious: Make sure you are competitive in pay, benefits, etc.
That said, these don't have to be the best if you can't afford it, they just have to be fair and competitive. As you become more successful, do your best to improve those areas and show your employees how much you appreciate them.

Tip #7 – Make work as fun as possible.
People want to be happy and will tell others about this. When they tell others about it, it becomes clear that you are a cool place to work. When that happens, you will get more registrations.
