New /"Moxi/" robots help Cedars-Sinai nurses perform time-consuming tasks that improve efficiency

You can't miss Cedars-Sinai's newest helpers: identical twin robots called Moxi.
They zip through the hospital hallways and hallways, helping nurses perform simple but time-consuming tasks such as delivering lab samples and picking up medications from the pharmacy. They can even travel to the gift shop to pick up items for patients.

The robots dramatically improve efficiency by transporting supplies, medications and linens. Just as importantly, they add energy and cheerfulness to the units where they work: their heart-shaped eyes light up and they make cartoonish squeaking noises as they wave their mechanized arms hello.

Nurses and others say they enjoy being around the robots, which were introduced as a pilot program in neurological, orthopedic and surgical departments.

/“We love Moxi,” said Melanie Barone, RN, associate director of nursing. /"I think it is important to have the Moxi robots present because not only do they offer the opportunity to improve workflows and be more efficient, but they are also nice to see in the halls. They feel very future-oriented./"

The robots use artificial intelligence, machine learning technology and social engineering to communicate with people. They can navigate through doors with their arms and store goods in their base, which contains three locked drawers.
