ABSTRACT
The Internet went far beyond a technological artifact and increasingly became a tool for social interaction. These interactions are typically complex and difficult to analyze automatically, requiring the research and development of new data mining techniques that take into account the individual characteristics of each application scenario. Note that these data mining techniques, like other machine learning techniques, are intensive in terms of both computation and I/O, motivating the development of new paradigms, programming environments, and parallel algorithms that support scalable and efficient applications.
