App Privacy Report
There is increasingly invasive tracking by apps like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Tiktok, Gaming Apps, etc. However, it is still generally safe to download any app from the Android Google Play Store or IOS iPhone App Store. Due to the increasing amount of invasive tracking, Apple introduced the App Privacy Report. This tool records details about what your apps do, tracking, collecting and using your phone over a period of seven days. All of this is stored locally on your iPhone. Disabling the App Privacy Report will permanently delete the data from your device.
It is split into 4 sections:
Data and sensor access:
– Shows how many times your apps have accessed sensitive data and sensors, such as your microphone, camera and location.
– Report shows when the app accessed the data or sensor
– Beware of fishing activities, such as a calculator accessing your microphone, or a game accessing your location in the background while you sleep.
App Network Activity:
– Shows which web domains (websites, API, gateways, servers, IP addresses) your apps have communicated with in the last 7 days.
– Report differences between Apps contacted /"Directly/" and Apps /"Contacted by other content/"
– The goal is to give you additional insight into when, why, and how your applications interact with these domains
– Most people don't know if domains and IP addresses are reliable
– EX: When Facebook or Tik Tok contacts /"web.tiktok.com/" or /"web.facebook.com/
