It was this tragic set of circumstances that led to the creation of Kari's Law. It is named after Kari Hunt, who was brutally murdered in her hotel room in 2013, in front of her three young children.
Kari's nine-year-old daughter, Briana, tried to use their hotel room phone to call 911 for help. Her attempts to call police were unsuccessful because the hotel's phone system required her to call by 9 a.m. before she could call outside.
