IoT devices (sometimes called home automation) belong on a separate network from your computers. Many routers, firewalls, and Wi-Fi devices allow you to create a separate wireless network where these devices can live. Often, IoT devices lack the security features built into Microsoft Windows and MacOS, leaving them vulnerable to attack. By separating these devices from your computers at the network level, you prevent a compromised device from infecting your computers, where your important data resides.
