Christopher Beddow (Mapillary), State of the Map 2018
https://2018.stateofthemap.org/2018/T064-Completing_the_Map_with_Street-level_Imagery/

Over the past twelve months, Mapillary has been experimenting with capture tasks to see if we can turn dense image capture into map operations. The initiative is known as #CompletetheMap and works by dividing an area into a grid and encouraging the collection of images in each zone. As individuals collect images, they are given a visual representation of their progress, showing which areas require attention. #CompletetheMap has now taken place on every continent with exciting results we'd like to share, from cycling mapping in Ottawa to the Global Challenge with 28 countries represented. We're also going through the challenge capture process and asking for feedback on the challenges for future versions of the tool. The images collected from these initiatives, together with Mapillary computer vision, will enable smarter, more efficient, user-driven mapping on OSM.
