In almost every technology used by humans, the human-machine interface is critical to product performance. Whether it is an interplanetary spacecraft or a smartphone, mission success and end-user satisfaction are highly dependent on the ability of humans to easily access the machine's functionality. For many projects, the HMI can be the incentive item, absorbing a large portion of developer time and project costs. Developing a great HMI is an art, a science and an engineering challenge, one that requires creativity, careful planning and the right tools.
During the engineering.com Engineering Roundtable, multimedia content director Jim Anderton discusses the importance, challenges and future of HMI development with four human-machine interfacing experts from Unity3D and TomTom.
