Many federal and state dollars have flowed to broadband providers to close the digital divide, and much more money is on the way with the IIJA's Broadband Equity, Access & Deployment (BEAD) Program. Much attention has been paid to using fiber to bring future-proof broadband service to unserved and underserved areas, the areas that would be eligible for federal funding. In the meantime, some wireless operators will deploy 5G services, including with C-Band spectrum, long before some of those fiber deployments can get off the ground (or underground).
