Where are the places you haven't been yet that you should go to?
Who are the people you know who are most vulnerable and need your help? In her lecture, Xiomara Torres explores the idea of advocacy that unlocks potential and possibility. She is living proof of this with her incredible life journey.

Special thanks to the TEDxPortland core organizing team, 70 volunteers and dear partners – without you this experience would not be possible. Our event history can be found at TEDxPortland.com

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine in-depth discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are called TEDx, where x is an independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidelines for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. This talk was delivered at a TEDx event in the TED conference format, but independently organized by a local community. For more information, visit https://www.ted.com/tedx
Xiomara Torres crossed the Tijuana River at the age of 8 for the chance for a better life. Speaking no English, she settled in California and spent time in the foster care system until she became a parent at age 18. Today, she has gone from undocumented immigrant to recently elected judge in Multnomah County. She has spent her career fighting for Oregon's most vulnerable children and uses her talent and heart every day to make life better for our community. This talk was delivered at a TEDx event in the TED conference format, but independently organized by a local community. For more information, visit https://www.ted.com/tedx
