10 VIRTUAL APPLICATION TIPS!

So when you have an online job interview, whether it's an online HireVue, Skype or Zoom interview, or a pre-recorded video interview, pay attention to the following 10 tips!
VIRTUAL APPLICATION TIP #1
DOWNLOAD & TEST THE TECHNOLOGY RIGHT BEFORE YOUR INTERVIEW!
• Don't download the interview software a few minutes before your interview starts.
• Download the platform and create an account at least 24 hours before the start of your job interview.
• Get to know the technology as it reduces stress levels!
• Also make sure your device is charged! If the battery runs out, you fail!
• Make sure you log into the virtual interview at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time and set yourself up!
VIRTUAL APPLICATION TIP #2
CHOOSE A LOCATION FOR YOUR INTERVIEW THAT HAS A STRONG INTERNET CONNECTION OR WIFI!
• If your internet or WIFI goes down during the virtual interview, you probably won't get a second chance!
• Choose a room and test the internet with the door closed.
• Make sure the light in the room from any windows is in front of you, and never behind you! If the light is behind you, the interviewer may not be able to see you!

TEST YOUR MICROPHONE, SPEAKERS & SOUND SETTINGS BEFORE THE VIRTUAL INTERVIEW BEGINS!
• Do your headphones or speakers work?
• Does your microphone work?
• Do you need to access and change your computer or laptop settings for your chosen headset, microphone or speakers?
• If your virtual interview starts and they can't hear you, or you can't hear them, it indicates that you are disorganized.

MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO DISTRACTIONS IN YOUR HOME/OFFICE DURING THE INTERVIEW!
• Tell the people in the building that you have an online job interview and not to disturb you for the next hour!
• Make sure the room you are conducting the interview in is quiet and there is no outside noise!

DRESS PROFESSIONALLY!
• How you dress for your virtual job interview is very important!
• Looking smart and wearing professional attire shows the interviewer that you care about the job, and it also shows that you have a high standard.

LOOK AT THE WEBCAM, NOT THE SCREEN!
• A good way to connect with the interviewer is to make sure you are looking at the camera on your laptop or device.
• When you stare at the screen, you are not looking directly at the interviewer!
• This takes practice, so make sure you try to answer the interview questions by looking at the webcam before the actual interview starts.

MAKE SURE YOUR ANSWER IS READY FOR THE FIRST INTERVIEW QUESTION – INTRODUCE YOURSELF!
• A good way to remember your answer is to use SEAT

BODY LANGUAGE AND INTERVIEW TECHNIQUE!
• Sit upright in the chair.
• Smile throughout the interview.
• Listen to the interviewer and show that you are interested!
• Always be positive!
To achieve this, practice recording yourself the day before the interview so you can see how you look on camera! You'll be surprised how this tip will boost your self-confidence!
