When MAN diesel engines travel, this is normally accompanied by major logistical challenges. But transporting eight 320-ton MAN 18V48/60B engines across Nicaragua was an adventurous adrenaline rush that far exceeded anything required so far. Tropical temperatures of around 40 degrees, undulating road surfaces, curbs and low-hanging power cables made transport more difficult and in the port city of Corinto the power even had to be turned off. Eruptions and ash clouds from the Momotombo volcano added to the excitement. After seven days, MAN's heavyweight engines reached the power plant that was supposed to guarantee a reliable energy supply to the region around the million-strong Nicaraguan capital Managua by early 2017.
