This short video will give you a beginner's introduction to Twine and teach you how to create your own interactive fiction or short game. Created and presented by digital storyteller and game designer Mel Frances, this video accompanies Modern Art Oxford's digital participatory artwork, department (10 February – 13 March).

branch is a digital, participatory artwork that invites creative storytelling and shared imagination about what might happen next. Set in a forest with multiple possibilities, branch invites explorers to write a story, or delve into the stories written by others. Combining game design, interactive storytelling, speculative fiction and citizen science, the branch was created by Mel Frances in collaboration with a group of nine creative consultants: Laura Aris, Taniya Batra, Divjot Kaur, Phantom Lovewell (they/them), Matthew Elliot Pitfield, J Ponte, Vaishnavi Singh, Luke St Clair, Vaishna Surjid.
