Ryan Kelly, chief technical officer of EfficiencyOne

EfficiencyOne (E1) is exploring the use of virtual home assessments for lead generation in its whole-home energy efficiency program (based on EnerGuide).

Virtual audits are contactless, data-driven assessments generated with or without assistance
minimal homeowner involvement. The next phase of this project will replace the traditional EnerGuide assessment with a remote audit. Remote audits will be carried out by energy advisors via video calls. E1's experience shows that energy consumption estimates based on remote assessment models achieve acceptable accuracy for certain situations, and can provide other benefits such as lower costs, shorter time to complete an assessment and greater accuracy of energy consumption estimates combined with utility billing information.
