A new major game is getting an update that improves Steam Deck graphics

Enshrouded is still /"not supported/" on Steam Deck, but just got a performance update and FSR3 – PC Guide

Indie RPG Enshrouded recently unveiled the highly anticipated Update #3, which promises a host of new features and improvements. While the update delivers on many fronts, it's the performance improvements tailored specifically to Steam Deck users that have caught our attention. After these updates, there is at least an argument for a Steam Deck rating of 'Playable'.

On the surface, the addition of FSR 3.0 and new defaults would suggest a significant performance boost for the out-of-the-box handheld. However, early testing has revealed a less than ideal experience. In fact, the game's performance on the Steam Deck at the developer's recommended settings is downright poor; but this can be remedied if you know what to change.

There are a few big changes in terms of performance in the Back to the Shroud Update patch notes, mainly focused on the Steam Deck:

Improved stability and performance on lower hardware specs and on the Steam Deck.

Updated the default settings for the Steam Deck. Use the “Reset to Default” button to use the updated settings.

FSR3 is now supported and replaces FSR2. You can stop asking now.

However, according to Steam Deck HQ, performance on the new default settings seems mediocre. A quick dive into the settings reveals the culprit: point light shadows. This graphics feature, which is inexplicably enabled by default on Steam Deck, is a major performance bump. Disabling this immediately will give you a much smoother experience, allowing players to comfortably hit the 30 FPS target while maintaining a 15W TDP limit. So the new default settings cannot be recommended at this time.
