This is the third in a series of 3 videos created by students in the Master of Public Health Program at Wright State University, Boonshoft School of Medicine, Dayton, Ohio, USA.

Did you know that mobile phones can improve our health?
mHealth: What is it? How does it work worldwide? What are the challenges?

The first video is about what mHealth is, as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO). (https://youtu.be/A5hSs8yTXvc)
In this 2nd video you will see how mHealth works worldwide.

The third video discusses the challenges faced by mHealth and how they are overcome.

mHealth initiatives rely on older models of mobile phones due to the lack of reliable internet and electricity, which hinders the use of smartphones. However, there are initiatives to develop smartphones that are cheap and use less electricity. Often, mHealth applications cannot share information, so more integration is needed within and between health systems. All information collected by mHealth has the potential to be analyzed as “big data” to improve health. Cheaper and more accessible mobile phones are needed to improve the health of populations worldwide.
